SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the physics of surfaces, namely, to the visual assessment of the quality of the ceramic products surfaces, it can be used to detect surface and subsurface defects in the material of the product, transparent in the optical area of the spectrum. A method of visual and optical control of the quartz ceramic product surface is proposed, which consists of detecting surface and subsurface defects of the product. The control of the outer and inner surfaces of the product is carried out in transmitted light. Before the control, the product is immersed in a container with water to increase the transparency of the controlled material of the product and dried in air until the gloss of the water membrane on the product surface disappears. Then, the location, type and size of the detected defects in reflected light are determined.

EFFECT: development of a method for visual and optical control of surface and subsurface defects of large-sized products of complex shape made of quartz ceramics, which allows increasing the accuracy of detecting damage to the product surface and does not require the use of complex devices, equipment and implementation methods.
