FIELD: nutrition.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of nutrition affecting brain development. Proposed is a use of lipid in the production of a nutritional composition for improving fatty acid content in human cell membranes. The lipid is in form of lipid globules, wherein the lipid contains at least 0.5% wt. alpha-linolenic acid, at least 5% wt. linolenic acid and at least 10% wt. palmitic acid per total amount of fatty acids, wherein at least 15% wt. of palmitic acid per total amount of palmitic acid is at the sn-2 position of the triglyceride; wherein the lipid globules have a mode diameter per volume of at least 1 mcm and/or at least 45% vol. have a diameter of 2 to 12 mcm, and the lipid also contains at least 0.5% wt. phospholipids per total amount of lipids, wherein part of the phospholipid is in the lipid globule surface layer; wherein either the nutritional composition is not human milk or the nutritional composition is comprised of a plant lipid, wherein the cell membranes are brain cell membranes or erythrocyte membranes.

EFFECT: by improving the composition of fatty acids in cell membranes of the human brain the lipids allow to improve cognitive functions and/or development and/or prevention of cognitive impairment, to improve behavioral characteristics and/or behavioral development, vision acuity and/or fine motor skills.
