A method and a system for detecting the potato virus in an image of an agricultural crop as well as a machine-readable medium are proposed. The method includes storing an image of a crop, identifying the first image region showing potato plant leaves, identifying a set of edges in the leaves of a potato plant, determining if an image segment meets a leaf shrinkage criterion, determining if an image segment satisfies a color criterion, and determining if the segment displays potato virus symptoms. The computer-readable medium has processor-executable instructions. When the instructions are executed, they adjust the processor to perform the above method steps. The system includes a memory storing machine-readable instructions and an image of a crop, and a processor capable of executing machine-readable instructions.
