SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a head-mounted display device. A head-mounted display device (100) capable of being worn by a user (121) comprises: an at least partially transparent display (101), a forward-facing video camera (102) configured to capture a first image of a real-world scene facing the eyes a video camera (103) configured to capture a second image of the reflection of the real world scene by the user's cornea (123), and processing means (104). The processing means (104) is configured to select a calibration object from one or more real world objects or parts thereof (130-135) visible both in the first image and in the second image, and obtain a calibration transformation for calculating the display position based on the position in the real world using a selected real-world object that is visible in both the first image and the second image, so that the virtual object presented on the display in the display position is aligned with the corresponding real-world object located at the specified position in the real world how the user sees it.
EFFECT: invention provides automatic selection of a calibration object for use during the calibration procedure.
