FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for producing corundum. The method for producing corundum includes heating alumina powder until melting using plasma-arc heating. Alumina is fed into the reactor and melted at plasma-arc heating in the temperature range from 2050 to 2500°C in the atmosphere of nitrogen and argon gas mixture. After conducting the reaction, the obtained corundum is poured into molds.
EFFECT: providing a stable yield of corundum of high chemical purity (not less than 99.98 wt.%) and phase homogeneity.
