FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of producing aluminum hydroxide. Technical aluminum hydroxide of gibbsite modification is subjected to drying at a temperature of 23-110°C for 5-36 hours, cooled, if necessary, to room temperature and a fraction with a particle size of less than 180 microns is screened out. An aqueous solution of 48-52% wt. or 20-40% wt. nitric acid taken in 90-100% molar amount of stoichiometry is added to it with stirring. Without stopping stirring, it is heated to a temperature of 100-110°C and kept with stirring at this temperature for 3-4 hours. Unreacted aluminum hydroxide is filtered off, the resulting solution of aluminum nitrate is cooled.

EFFECT: increased purity of aluminum nitrate solutions by reducing the content of iron and sodium oxides.
