FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a gear turning instrument (10) comprising a shank (12) extending along the longitudinal axis (14) of the instrument (10) and a cutting head (16) located at the end of the shank (12). The cutting head (16) is comprised of teeth (18) arranged along the perimeter, wherein each of said teeth (18) at the end of the cutting head (16) facing away from the shank (12) comprises a flat front surface (20) inclined from the longitudinal axis (14) at an angle not equal to 90°. A transition surface is located between the front surfaces (20) of each two adjacent teeth (18), wherein the surface is also located at the end of the cutting head (16) and directly adjoins the front surfaces (20) of the two adjacent teeth (18). The angle between the normals to the surface at all points of the transition surface and the front surfaces (20) of the corresponding two adjacent teeth (18) is therein greater than 0°.
EFFECT: generation of an interfering contour on the tooth heads is prevented as a result.
