FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cutting helical gears with arched lengthwise and involute transverse profiles. It comprises cutting convex and concave tooth sides by appropriate cutting heads. Note here that machining comprises cutting involute surfaces located above primary cylinder and transition surfaces under the latter. Note also that in cutting involute surfaces used are cutting heads with cutter shaping points are located on circle with radius defined by cited relationship. Involute and transition surfaces are cut using the same cutting heads. Note that in cutting transition surface gear is turned through the angle so that point B of intersection of tooth and primary cylinder is located at such distance from cutting head rotational axis that equals or exceeds that from cutting head rotational axis to point T. Note also that in cutting tooth convex side said distance should equal or be smaller than that from cutting head rotational axis to said point T. Cutting head is set to such position whereat point S of intersection between circle of profiling points with plane of symmetry of rim is located at point B. Then, revolving cutting head is displaced so that path of point S is aligned with the line formed by intersection of transition surface with rim plane of symmetry. Thereafter, cutting head is displaced along its rotational axis from gear axis to exit of cutter beyond tooth top cylinder.
