SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of medicine, namely to a method of treating C. difficile infection in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the said subject an effective amount of a compound or a salt thereof, where the compound is compound A’ having the following structural formula:

thereby providing treatment of C. difficile infection in the said subject, and also relates to a method of treating bacterial infection without occurrence of C. difficile infection, to a method of treating bacterial infection without substantially disrupting the intestinal microbiome in a subject, wherein the methods comprise administering to a subject selected as at risk of developing C. difficile infection, an effective amount of a compound or a salt thereof, wherein the said compound is compound A’ having the following structural formula:

thereby providing treatment of the said bacterial infection in the said subject without the occurrence of C. difficile infection.

EFFECT: group of inventions provides the development of effective methods for preventing C. difficile infection and the development of effective methods for treating C. difficile infection in subjects who are at risk of developing C. difficile and who are being treated for bacterial infection.
