METHOD FOR PLANNING SURGICAL REMOVAL OF EXTRAMEDULLARY SPINAL CORD TUMORS Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC A61B5/55 A61K49/06

Abstract RU 2752028 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to oncology, and can be used when planning the removal of extramedullary tumors of the spinal cord. MRI examination is performed on the spinal cord with contrast by intravenous administration of gadolinium. In case of recurrence of an extramedullary tumor, it is planned to remove it microsurgically using a neodymium laser. In case of a primary extramedullary tumor located in the cervical spine, microsurgical removal is planned without the use of a neodymium laser. When a tumor is located in the thoracic, lumbar or sacral regions with length of more than three vertebrae, microsurgical removal of the tumor is planned without the use of a neodymium laser. If a tumor is less than three vertebrae, microsurgical removal of the tumor is planned, during which the tumor grade is additionally determined and if the grade of malignancy is Grade 2-4, the use of a neodymium laser is not planned; if the grade of malignancy is Grade 1, the use of a neodymium laser is planned for microsurgical removal of the tumor.

EFFECT: method provides the maximum possible removal of the tumor, eliminating the risk of thermal damage and/or death of healthy tissue by accurately determining the size and location of the tumor.
