SUBSTANCE: invention relates to internal combustion engines, particularly to transmission of starting torque from the starter to the engine. The present document discloses an apparatus for functional connection of an engine starter with an engine, wherein the engine is characterized by the presence of an engine crankshaft and the engine starter is characterized by the presence of a starter shaft with a length and a worm or a worm screw, a worm drive located at a distance in the radial direction from the starter adapter shaft and within the specified length of the shaft. The apparatus comprises an assembled worm wheel functionally attached to the shaft of the starter adapter. The assembled worm wheel comprises a worm wheel or a worm gear configured to engage with the worm, and a free-wheel clutch located in the radial direction between the worm wheel and the shaft of the starter adapter and functionally engaging with the shaft of the starter adapter.

EFFECT: invention improves reliability of a starter and reduces the risk of damage due to backfiring.
