FIELD: composite materials.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing a durable composite coating on a metal surface and can be used in restoration and strengthening of machine and instrument parts. The method includes introducing a powder composition of the Fe-Ni-Cr-Si system alloyed with boron, niobium and copper, with a dispersion of 60 to 100 mcm into the laser exposure area, and continuously surfacing in a controlled gaseous medium of argon with nitrogen at a power of the laser of 1.8 to 2 kW.

EFFECT: increase in the hardness of the surface layer to a level of ≥1400 HV with the strength of the coating reaching 650 MPa at a depth of 1.2 mm due to formation of an iron-nickel metal base with a uniform distribution of complex carbide-forming inclusions and stable phases increasing the adhesion and hardness of the coating.
