FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in obtaining highly enriched isotopes of lanthanides or thorium. The method for separating isotopes of lanthanides and thorium by separating molecules of a gaseous metal compound by the molecular weight thereof in a field of centrifugal forces in a cascade of separating elements includes synthesising a volatile metal compound - metal tetraborohydride or metal tetramethyl borohydride. Said compound is supplied to a cascade of separating elements and a gas fraction enriched by the target isotope is isolated. A cascade of gas centrifuges is used as the cascade of separating elements. The gas fractions obtained during separation in the cascade of separating elements is processed using a chlorinating reagent. Hydrogen chloride is used as the chlorinating agent for the purpose of recycling lithium borohydride or lithium methyl borohydride used in synthesising the volatile metal compound.
EFFECT: invention allows improving efficiency of separation of isotopes of lanthanides and thorium and providing recycling of reagents used in the process.
