SUBSTANCE: aerosol delivery device and a control case for the aerosol delivery device are provided. The aerosol delivery device contains an atomizer and a power source connected to an electrical load that contains the atomizer. The power source contains a rechargeable lithium-ion battery having a carbon-based anode, an electrochemically active cathode, and an anhydrous electrolyte contacting with the anode and cathode. The anhydrous electrolyte contains a lithium salt in a carbonate solvent or a mixture of solvents, a supercapacitor charged from a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and made with the possibility to supply energy to an electrical load, and a DC-to-DC converter connected to a supercapacitor between the supercapacitor and the electrical load. The aerosol delivery device contains a resistor connected to a lithium-ion battery and a DC-to-DC converter and provided between them, and a microprocessor made with the possibility to operate in active mode. The microprocessor is made with the possibility to direct energy from the power source to the atomizer and thus control the atomizer to form an inhaled substance from the aerosol precursor composition. The implementation of the microprocessor with the possibility to direct energy from the power source to the atomizer includes its implementation with the possibility to direct energy from the supercapacitor to the atomizer.
