FIELD: analytical chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to analytical chemistry. The method for mass spectrometric determination of gas mixture component composition includes injecting a gas mixture into a discharge cell with a hollow copper cathode, ionizing the mixture components by electric discharge pulses, extracting ions during a time-of-flight mass spectrometer using extraction pulses, and mass spectral detection. The extraction pulses are delayed relative to the discharge pulse by delay times from 1 to 300 microseconds. At delay times from 80 to 140 microseconds, mass spectral peaks of copper ions and ions of reference components selected from molecules with an ionization energy of no more than 12.2 eV, such as oxygen and volatile organic compounds, are detected, and the pressure of the gas mixture, the duration of the discharge pulses and the frequency of their repetition is chosen so that the intensity of the ion peaks of copper sputtered from the hollow cathode does not exceed the total intensity of the ion peaks of the reference components, reduced to the total concentration of C2 of the reference components in the gas mixture, where C2 is chosen from 0.01% to 0.3%.
EFFECT: simultaneous highly efficient ionization of both inorganic molecules and organic compounds with a low degree of fragmentation and high detection sensitivity.
