SUBSTANCE: invention relates to checking the magnetic properties of a valuable document using a magnetic sensor that has a measuring sensor track with several magnetically sensitive measuring sensor elements, as well as at least one other magnetically sensitive sensor element that is located behind the measuring sensor track and that has greater distance from the plane of movement of the valuable document than measuring sensor elements. By means of other sensor elements, correction signals are detected at the correction measuring points of the valuable document, which are located on the same measuring line as measuring points. To calculate their dependence on the distance of measuring signals, the corresponding measuring signal is corrected based on the decay of the signal, which has the correction signal obtained for this measuring point in comparison with the measuring signal of the corresponding measuring point.
EFFECT: invention provides for magnetic verification of valuable documents.
