FIELD: communication.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanisms for instructing switching to an alternative communication line for a beam pair link (BPL). A terminal device is configured with an initiating condition for a failure in a communication line for a beam. And the method contains an assessment, during communication with a network node over the current BPL, that the communication performance should be better when using an alternative BPL instead of the current BPL for communication. The method contains the formation of messages on a failure in the communication line for the beam for the current BPL to the network node, without satisfying the initiating condition for a failure in the communication line for the beam for the current BPL, thereby instructing switching to an alternative BPL.
EFFECT: technical result is providing effective processing of the BPL, in particular, in scenarios in which beams of the current BPL are no longer the best, from the point of view of some quality criterion, for communication between the terminal device and the network node.
