FIELD: wireless communication systems.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a wireless transmission/reception unit (WTRU). The WTRU contains a processor designed to: initiate random access; determine whether to select the first Random Access Channel (RACH) procedure or the second RACH procedure for random access, based on at least the network configuration provided in the system information. In this case, when selecting the second RACH procedure, the processor is additionally designed to: determine at least one resource of the physical random access channel (PRACH) associated with the second RACH procedure; determine the preamble sequence associated with the second RACH procedure, based on at least high-level information containing information related to the preamble sequence; determine the preamble resource associated with the second RACH procedure, based on high-level information containing information indicating the preamble resource; determine a data resource for uplink data based on one or more of at least one PRACH resource, preamble sequence, uplink data type, or uplink data size; and transmit to a network device, using at least one of the PRACH resource and data resource, RACH transmission containing preamble sequences and uplink data.
