SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of veterinary medicine. The method for predicting the direction of productivity of quails at the early stages of postembryonic development includes the analysis of histological sections of the pectoralis major muscle of quails on the 21st day of postembryonic development and the calculation of the coefficient of the possible direction of productivity, which is the ratio of the thickness of the bundles of muscle fibers to the thickness of individual muscle fibers. If this coefficient is less than 7.5, it’s likely that quails are characterized by meat productivity. If the coefficient is more than 15.5, quails are characterized by egg productivity, and if it falls within the range from 7.5 to 15.5, quails are characterized by meat and egg productivity.

EFFECT: method for predicting the type of quail productivity is technologically advanced and requires the minimum time for examination. It has high accuracy of change and reliability, which ensures the acceleration of selective genetic work.
