FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of forming charged particles under atmospheric pressure and can be used in scientific activities, in medicine, in technological processes, in secondary ion mass spectrometry under atmospheric pressure, wherein the use of proton beams containing up to 1012 protons per second is possible. The method is characterised by the use of an electrolyte in form of a water-alcohol solution with the addition of an acid to a concentration of 0.1 M. Protons are extracted from the top of the electrolyte meniscus, wherein the electrolyte is in a non-homogeneous constant electric field. The proton extraction mode is stable for the entire duration of the electrolyte entering the meniscus.
EFFECT: provided is possibility of obtaining a reproducible long-term stable proton current under atmospheric pressure.
