FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to lubricating compositions and can be used in the processing of friction units of machines and mechanisms, in particular heavily loaded friction units, such as a pair of "wheel-rail", to reduce the noise effect that occurs, for example, when braking a train, as well as when braking wagons with rail brakes when maneuvering on marshalling humps. A noise-suppressing lubricant composition for contacting steel surfaces of friction units includes graphite, metal oxide or a mixture of metal oxides with a Mohs hardness greater than the steel hardness of the contacting surfaces, a cladding additive of a metal having a Mohs hardness lower than the steel hardness of the contacting surfaces, modifying an antifriction material additive consisting of from nano- and submicro-sized particles having a layered structure, and a hydrocarbon base, with the following ratio of components, wt.%: graphite 10-20, metal oxide or a mixture of metal oxides 15-25, cladding additive 8-15, modifying antifriction additive 2-5, hydrocarbon base the rest is up to 100%.
EFFECT: invention provides a reduction in the overall level of noise generated when steel surfaces of friction units are in contact.
