FIELD: mineral processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of mineral processing and can be used in the preparation of both granular and ground ferrosilicon for its use in the process of heavy-medium separation of ores. The method for preparing granular ferrosilicon for heavy-medium separation includes heating ferrosilicon to a temperature of 900-1100°С at a pressure of 1.25 atm and the formation of a protective film on its surface by exposure to a nitrogen-containing passivating medium, after exposure to a nitrogen medium, ferrosilicon is cooled in a nitrogen medium to a temperature of 45°С for 40-60 minutes.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at increasing the corrosion and mechanical stability of ferrosilicon while maintaining its magnetic properties, which reduces its consumption during heavy-medium separation.
