FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanical engineering and can be used to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the surface layer of the outer cylindrical surfaces of machine parts. The method includes communicating a rotational movement of the workpiece relative to its longitudinal axis, pressing the tool against the surface of the workpiece, and reporting the longitudinal feed to the tool in a direction parallel to the axis of the workpiece. A tool is used, made with a deforming element in the form of a circular sector, which is rigidly fixed along the axis of symmetry on one side of the rocker arm. A circular sector is performed with rounding on its cylindrical surface. Oscillatory circular movements at a given angle of not more than 45° are imparted to the deforming tool.
EFFECT: mechanical properties of the material of the surface layer of machine parts are increased.
