FIELD: gamma radiation sources.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a source of gamma radiation containing low density alloys or compounds or composites of iridium in mechanically deformable and compressible configurations, in a sealed shell. Radiological or radiographic radiation source is made with a mechanically pressed, compressible discontinuous configuration of an alloy or mixture of iridium, manganese and an element selected from the group consisting of aluminum, copper and mixtures thereof; or an alloy or mixture of iridium and yttrium.
EFFECT: creation of deformable low-density radiation sources based on iridium.
