FIELD: alloys.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to improvements in a gamma ray source typically containing low density iridium alloys in mechanically deformable and compressible sheathed configurations. The radiation source includes an iridium alloy with a density in the range of 30-85% of the density of pure iridium at 100% density. The source contains an alloy composition Ir2-(x+y)PtxOsyM1N1, where M and N are dissimilar metals. The radiation source includes a stack of discs containing iridium or an iridium alloy, the stack containing free spaces to reduce the average density in the range of 30-85% density of pure iridium with 100% density.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to improve the sources of gamma radiation, as well as to reduce the stacking density of iridium disks.
