FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: inventions relate to non-ferrous metallurgy, in particular to the production of alumina, namely scandium-containing alumina and methods for its production from scandium-containing solutions and aluminum-containing raw materials of various origins; it can be used in the production of aluminum-scandium alloys. Scandium-containing alumina is obtained by combining solutions containing a precursor of aluminum oxide in the form of an alkaline solution of sodium aluminate containing a solid phase of aluminum hydroxo compounds and a precursor of scandium oxide. Scandium-containing precipitation is obtained, which is processed by firing or by pre-concentrating scandium in precipitation, followed by firing, to obtain a product – scandium-containing alumina. The product contains scandium oxide from 0.25 to 40 wt. %, aluminum oxide from 60 to 99.75 wt. % and inevitable impurities as the rest. Scandium in scandium-containing alumina is chemically bound to aluminum and/or enters a crystal lattice of at least one of phases of aluminum oxide.

EFFECT: inventions make it possible to simplify the technological scheme for obtaining aluminum-scandium alloys using inexpensive starting reagents (scandium-containing solutions) and provide a scandium oxide content in alumina of at least 0.25 wt.%.
