METHOD FOR ASSESSING THE RISK OF BACTERIAL MENINGITIS IN CRITICALLY ILL PATIENTS Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC G01N33/483 A61B5/00

Abstract RU 2759025 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to clinical laboratory diagnostics, and can be used in neurology, surgery, anesthesiology, resuscitation and related medical specialties. A method for assessing the risk of developing bacterial meningitis in critically ill patients includes cytological, biochemical and microbiological studies of the composition of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Additionally, the concentration of the bacterial metabolite - 4-hydroxyphenyl-lactic acid (n-HPLA) in the CSF is determined. The concentration of n-HPLA in the CSF greater than or equal to 0.7 mcmol/L indicates a high level of risk of developing bacterial meningitis in the patient, the concentration of n- n-HPLA in the CSF less than 0.7 mcmol/L indicates a low risk of developing bacterial meningitis.

EFFECT: invention provides the diagnosis of bacterial meningitis in patients in the acute phase of manifestation of clinical signs of the disease, as well as an assessment of the risk of developing secondary bacterial meningitis, which is a life-threatening complication in patients of all age categories in the departments of neuroresuscitation and neurosurgery.
