SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of railway transport maintenance, in particular, to mobile units for replacing wheelsets or undercarriage equipment, as well as to methods for using such units. The unit comprises the main frame and a mechanism for movement thereof. An elevating table, an elevating mechanism therefor, as well as a set for controlling the mechanism are installed on the frame. A rotary platform is installed on the elevating table, configured to rotate in the horizontal plane and move transversely relative to the unit. The unit is placed under the replaced wheelset. The rotary platform is rotated and secured in the transverse direction. The elevating table is raised, and the wheelset is installed on the platform. The elevating table is lowered. The replaced wheelset is removed from the rotary platform. A new wheelset is installed on the platform, and the elevating table is raised to install the wheelset in the carriage.

EFFECT: time for replacing a wheelset is reduced.
