FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy and can be used to record the moment of filling a casting mould with liquid metal. The apparatus comprises a body with two electrodes installed therein insulated with a heat-resistant dielectric material and having non-insulated parts protruding from the body, configured to interact with liquid metal, wherein the electrodes are configured to be connected to a recorder with a power source. The body is made in the form of a body of rotation with a collar, configured to be built into the body of the casting mould with fixation of the collar to the body of the casting mould by means of a pressure element, wherein the entire space of the body around and between the electrodes is filled with a gas-permeable heat-resistant dielectric material. Also presented is a method for recording the moment of filling of a casting mould applying the apparatus.

EFFECT: use of inventions provides a possibility of improving the quality of foundry castings.
