FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to high-strength molded aluminum oxide in the form of granules, spherical particles or agglomerates, which can be used as carriers of oilfield reagents, catalyst carriers and fillers of fireproof materials. A method for producing high-strength molded aluminum oxide is carried out by feeding aluminum oxide powder to an agglomerator having a shaft with mixers capable of displacing aluminum oxide powder along the shaft, spraying a liquid binder on aluminum oxide powder, when it is displaced along the shaft, to form molded aluminum oxide, and calcinating molded aluminum oxide at a temperature of 1250-1700°C. Before feeding to agglomerator, aluminum oxide powder has a value D50 of an average particle size of less than 40 mcm, while the size of crystallites is from 35 to 190 angstrom. In the second option, aluminum oxide powder with the size of crystallites from 300 to 500 angstrom is used. In the third option, a combination of these powders is used. Obtained molded aluminum oxide in the form of granules has free bulk density of not less than 1.20 g/ml, surface area of less than 10 m2/g, impurities of less than 5 ppm for individual metals and less than 9 ppm of impurities in total, and/or crushing strength of more than 12,000 lb./sq. inch (82.7 MPa).
EFFECT: obtaining high-strength molded aluminum oxide.
