FIELD: acoustics.

SUBSTANCE: claimed group of inventions relates to a method and device for performing dynamic range compression (hereinafter – DRC) for an ambiophony-based signal, and in particular for a signal based on higher-order ambiophony (hereinafter – HOA). The method for performing DRC for HOA signal includes converting HOA signal into a spatial domain, analyzing converted HOA signal and obtaining, from the results of the mentioned analysis, gain coefficients that are applicable for dynamic compression. Gain coefficients can be transmitted together with HOA signal. When using DRC, HOA signal is converted into a spatial domain, gain coefficients are extracted and multiplied by converted HOA signal in the spatial domain, and converted HOA signal with gain compensation is obtained. Converted HOA signal with gain compensation is converted back to HOA domain, and HOA signal with gain compensation is obtained.

EFFECT: providing the possibility of applying dynamic range control (DRC) to signals based on higher-order ambiophony (HOA).
