FIELD: cosmonautics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and means for protection of spacecrafts (SC) from collisions with objects of natural and artificial origin of different weight and degree of dispersion, including fragments of "space debris". The method involves kinetic impact on the hazardous objects with special projectiles fired from an electromagnetic (rail) accelerator launched into the orbit of the SC. The projectiles are made with increased plasticity and adhesiveness. An impulse of up to 24 kg∙km/s can be transmitted to the accelerating projectiles.
EFFECT: technical result consists in ensuring the protection of the SC at significant distances from hazardous objects (due to the long range of a direct shot of the projectile from the accelerator) and in reducing the amount of debris from destruction of hazardous objects.
