FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely, to cardiac surgery, vascular surgery. The level of haptoglobin in the blood serum is determined presurgically, and if the value thereof is less than 1.5 mg/l, a blood-saving surgical intervention with maximum prevention of hemolysis is selected. The indicators of free hemoglobin are therein additionally determined intrasurgically in the blood serum and in each dose of the erythrocyte suspension prior to hemotransfusion, and restrictive hemotransfusion is applied if the level of free hemoglobin in the blood serum and/or in the erythrocyte suspension is greater than 1 g/dl.

EFFECT: method provides a possibility of preventing excessive toxic effect of free hemoglobin on the structures of the nephron in surgical interventions associated with hemolysis or significant blood loss, reducing the risks of acute kidney damage in patients with chronic kidney disease.
