FIELD: electric rocket motors.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electric rocket motors, and more specifically to colloidal electric rocket engines based on electrostatic spraying of electrically conductive liquids. The colloidal electric rocket engine contains an emitter of charged particles formed by a system of atomizers of an ion-conducting liquid, an accelerator of charged particles, which includes successively installed extracting and accelerating electrodes, power supply sources of the extracting and accelerating electrodes, a system for storing and supplying an electrically conductive liquid to the atomizers of the emitter of charged particles, each of which is formed by an outer casing and an inner electrode, the top of which protrudes beyond the end of the outer casing. The inner electrode of the atomizer is placed in a housing made of a dielectric material, except for its protruding apex, while an additional power supply is introduced, connected between the outer body and the inner electrode of the atomizer. The technical solution is to expand the operating mode with a high specific charge of the sprayed particles towards higher flow rates.
EFFECT: invention make it possible to achieve a higher specific impulse of thrust at a high value of engine thrust.
