SUBSTANCE: for communication, in a mobile communication system, the first and the second parts BP1 and BP2 of a bandwidth are used, which are within the bandwidth of the system, wherein the first part BP1 of the bandwidth is less than the second part BP2 of the bandwidth, while a mobile terminal accepts the configuration of a discontinuous reception (hereinafter – DRX) cycle and then configures the downlink communication during at least one of communication periods in the DRX cycle in order to use a specific one of at least the first part BP1 of the bandwidth and the second part BP2 of the bandwidth.

EFFECT: dynamic control of the use of parts of the bandwidth in accordance with requirements for energy conservation and traffic.
