FIELD: inorganic chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry and can be used in the manufacture of catalysts. First, an aqueous solution of zirconium salt is obtained. Then hydrated zirconium oxide is precipitated by dosing into the reaction volume of the resulting solution, in which a constant pH value of 2.5-3.5 is maintained due to the controlled introduction of an aqueous ammonia solution. The filtered precipitate is washed with an aqueous solution of ammonia at a pH of at least 8 until the concentration of anions in the liquid part of the suspension is no more than 0.01 mol/l. After that, the suspension is placed in an autoclave, heated to 100-130°C and kept at this temperature for no more than 12 hours or heated to 130°C without holding at the specified temperature. The resulting hydrated zirconium oxide is filtered and dried.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to obtain powder hydrated zirconium oxide with a high specific surface area -550-600 m2/g, without the use of organic substances.
