FIELD: chemical processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology for producing powders of chromium oxide by deposition, wherein said powders can be used to create wear-resistant coatings by thermal spraying. Method for producing chromium oxide powders includes producing an aqueous solution of chromium nitrate or sulphate, depositing chromium hydroxide by dosing the solution of chromium nitrate or sulphate into a reaction volume wherein a constant pH value at a level of 7 to 8 is maintained by controlled introduction of an aqueous ammonia solution, separating the formed deposit, drying and conducting heat treatment; wherein the reaction medium is mixed at a constant rate from 200 to 700 rpm, and the amount of chromium nitrate or sulphate spent for deposition is no less than 0.05 mol as calculated for chromium.
EFFECT: production of spherical chromium oxide particles with a narrow particle size distribution.
