FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to devices for comparing and synchronizing time scales of remote objects using a fiber-optic communication line connecting objects. Device for comparing and synchronizing time scales of remote objects consists of two components located on distant from each other objects, contains on the first object an event timer, connected thereto a generator for forming the time scale of this object, optical pulse receiver with a spectral filter at the optical pulse carrier frequency and a computer. Optical pulse generator of first object is connected to input of splitter-couplers unit, which consists of fiber-optic splitter, first output of which is connected to first fiber-optic coupler, output of which is connected to input of photodetector, and second input to output of circulator, and the second output of the splitter is connected to the first input of the second fiber-optic coupler, the second input of which is connected to the output of the pumping lasers unit, and the output of the second coupler is connected to the input of the circulator, the input/output of which is connected to a fiber-optic communication line connecting two remote objects, and the output is connected to the input of the first coupler connected to the photodetector. Second object also includes an event timer, connected thereto an intermediate generator, to which the second object time scale generator is connected, an optical pulse receiver with a spectral filter at the frequency of the optical pulse carrier and a computer connected to the intermediate generator. Second object optical pulse generator is connected to the second object splitter-coupler unit input, which consists of a fiber-optic splitter, first output of which is connected to first fiber-optic coupler, output of which is connected to input of photodetector, and second input to output of circulator, and the second output of the splitter is connected to the first input of the second fiber-optic coupler, the second input of which is connected to the output of the pumping lasers unit, and the output of the second coupler is connected to the input of the circulator, the input/output of which is connected to a fiber-optic communication line connecting two remote objects, and the output is connected to the input of the first coupler connected to the photodetector.
EFFECT: high accuracy of the system, high permissible distance between objects, high accuracy of comparison or synchronization, high reliability and efficiency, as well as possibility of comparing or synchronizing time scales using only one optical fiber of arbitrary length, including “dark” fiber leased from public network operators.
