FIELD: chemical or physical processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production of material for positive electrodes of lithium-ion batteries. Method of producing a solution containing sulfuric acid and dissolved nickel or cobalt includes a step of feeding an electrolyte, on which a solution containing sulfuric acid and chloride ions is fed as an initial electrolyte into electrolytic cell 10, the inner space of which is divided by diaphragm 12 into anode chamber 21 and cathode chamber 22. Then current is supplied to anode 13 and cathode 14 located in electrolytic cell 10. Electrolyte with dissolved metal forming anode is extracted from anode chamber 21. Cathode chamber 22 has a liquid level maintained higher than the liquid level in anode chamber 21. Invention also discloses an electrolysis cell having an inner space divided by diaphragm 12 into anode chamber 21 and cathode chamber 22. Diaphragm 12 includes filter cloth with water permeability of 0.01 l/(m2⋅s) or more and 0.5 l/(m2⋅s) or less.
EFFECT: invention increases efficiency of producing high-purity sulfuric acid solution in which nickel or cobalt is dissolved.
