SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to systems and a method for quenching a rolled metal strip. The system (124) for quenching a rolled metal strip, placed behind the rolling mill and configured to receive a metal strip moved in the direction (130) of treatment from said rolling mill, comprises: a control system (114), at least one upper nozzle (104A) configured to distribute the cooling agent over the upper surface (106) of the metal strip while the metal strip moves in said direction (130) of treatment, at least one lower nozzle (104B) configured to distribute the cooling agent over the lower surface (106) of the metal strip while the metal strip moves in said direction (130) of treatment, a flatness measurement apparatus (110) located behind the nozzles of the system (124) for quenching, coupled with the control system (114) and configured to measure the flatness profile of the metal strip along the width thereof and to output the measured flatness profile as a flatness signal, and a sensor (112) configured to determine the temperature of the metal strip while the metal strip is moving in said direction (130) of treatment. The control system (114) is therein configured to control, based on the flatness signal, said at least one upper nozzle (104A) so as to distribute the cooling agent until the temperature of the metal strip is reduced from the initial temperature to an intermediate temperature lower than the initial temperature. The control system (114) is also configured to control, based on the flatness signal, said at least one lower (104B) nozzle so as to distribute the cooling agent until the temperature of the metal strip is reduced from the initial temperature to the target temperature lower than the initial temperature and lower than the intermediate temperature.
EFFECT: possibility of differential cooling of the rolled strip.
