FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for melting converter sludge in a DC arc furnace. The method includes melting, when adjustable rectified operating voltage from 20 Volts to 130 Volts is supplied from a power source with rectified DC power from 0.3 kA to 10.0 kA, the supply of which is supported by a brush short arc with a length from 0.5 to 5 mm and the movement of graphite electrodes at a speed from 10 to 15 m/min, with the creation of a direct electric field directed to the cathode, when metal contacts an anode spot of an electric arc with a current density of 2-5 KAm2 and a specific heat flux of 10-15 kW.
EFFECT: effective balance of energy saving and environmental improvement is ensured due to the reduction in harmful emissions of process gases, dust and harmful substances during the smelting of non-ferrous and ferrous metals.
