FIELD: composite materials.
SUBSTANCE: method for producing a composite material, primarily, of a splitter for a sparging unit, is intended for use in the field of powder metallurgy in production of composite materials by the method of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), primarily, of splitters of sparging units, for preparing organic fertilisers in agriculture. The method for producing a composite material consisting of silicon and aluminium oxide includes preparation of a reaction mixture of powders of the initial components, containing aluminium powder and silicon oxide powder, and initiation of the process of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. The reaction mixture is prepared by mechanical activation of the mixture of powders of the initial components, containing 40 wt.% of aluminium and 60 wt.% of silicon oxide, in a ball mill in an inert atmosphere, resulting in production of a mechanically activated exothermic mixture. Polyvinyl acetate is then added to the mechanically activated exothermic mixture and held until solidification. The process of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis is initiated by heating said solidified mixture in a muffle furnace under an air pressure of 0.1 MPa to a temperature of 1,000 to 1,100°C. Holding is executed at the specified temperature for a period of time corresponding to formation of silicon and aluminium oxide and amounting to 20 to 22 minutes.
EFFECT: production of a homogeneous composite material, primarily, of splitters for sparging plants with uniform distribution of the reaction products of aluminium oxide and silicon throughout the product is ensured.
