FIELD: animal breeding.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a gel used as a source of water and/or nutrients for breeding insects, as well as to an insect fodder containing said gel, to a method of producing said gel and use thereof in insect breeding. Gel for insect breeding contains 90–99.6 wt. % of an aqueous substrate, which includes at least 25 wt. % of a liquid by-product of agriculture of the total weight of the aqueous substrate. Gel also contains 0.3–2 wt. % of a gelling agent and 0.1–5 wt. % of a preserving agent. Weight percentages of the aqueous substrate, gelling agent and preserving agent are expressed per total weight of the gel. Said gel has water content of more than 50 wt. % of the total weight of the gel.

EFFECT: providing good assimilation of water and nutrients by insects, which leads to excellent growth of insects with limited production costs, as well as in exclusion of possible sticking of insects.
