FIELD: ecology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ecology, in particular to assessment of atmospheric air pollution by vitality of epiphytic lichen-bioindicators. Method involves laying out at least 10 lichen indication sites with size of 25×25 m, measurement of relative vitality of lichens on each site using a palette, calculation of the average arithmetic index of vitality of lichens on the whole monitored territory, statistical processing of the obtained data. Average annual index of atmospheric air pollution is determined from the nomogram as a function of the average annual index of atmospheric air pollution from the lichen vitality index. Degree of pollution based on the obtained values of the average annual atmospheric pollution index is determined: 0.8–1 — favorable quality of the atmosphere, from 2 to 4 — threshold quality, from 5 to 6 — below average, 7–13 — high, and more than 14 — very high degree of contamination.
EFFECT: method provides high accuracy and efficiency of assessing the environmental situation in a populated area.
