FIELD: soil pollution.

SUBSTANCE: method for determining the index of soil pollution in populated areas according to the state of vitality of soil invertebrates relates to ecological monitoring of the soil in the territory of populated areas. The purpose of the invention is to reduce costs and increase the reliability of the results of assessing soil pollution in populated areas. New in the method is the bioindication of soil pollution in populated areas in terms of the vitality of the ecosystem of invertebrate soil animals. The method includes determining the index of soil pollution in populated areas, taking into account the vitality of soil invertebrates, namely: the breakdown of at least 10 control sites of 1 m2 on a plot of 1 ha; execution on each site of 5 soil samples with the size of 25×25 cm, 30 cm deep in the contaminated and control areas, collecting soil on a bedding 1 m2 in size and sorting the soil with hands in protective gloves, collecting invertebrate animals by species in fabric bags, counting the number of groups of soil invertebrate animals in each soil sample, statistical processing of the obtained data, determination of the indicator of the relative vitality of soil invertebrates collected on each experimental GSI and control GSIC sites using a mathematical formula. After that, the soil pollution index (SPI) is calculated according to the equation: GSI/GSIC = 0,73 - 0,4 ln SPI. Taking into account the obtained values of the soil pollution index, the degree of soil pollution is determined: from 0 to 16 - permissible, from 16 to 32 - moderately dangerous, from 32 to 128 - dangerous, more than 128 - extremely dangerous.

EFFECT: claimed method makes it possible to determine the degree of soil contamination according to the criteria established by the state control bodies, at a lower cost and with greater reliability.
