FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: method of measuring the speed of a fluid in a pipeline includes generating a probing ultrasonic signal emitted at a first point of the pipeline, converting the ultrasonic signal received at a second point of the pipeline into a digital form, formation of correlation function Ψ received and reference signals with subsequent creation in correlation function Ψ sequence of N time windows with monotonously decreasing time lengths, finding in each window the time position of the maximum of the correlation function, determining the desired maximum of the correlation function Ψmax by value of time position of local maximum of correlation function in N-th window, use Ψmax to determine the propagation time of the ultrasonic signal between the two said points of the pipeline with subsequent calculation of the velocity of the fluid medium in the pipeline.

EFFECT: providing faster operation of the method with high accuracy of measuring the velocity of the fluid in the pipeline.
