METHOD AND DEVICE FOR VIDEO CODING USING IMPROVED MODE OF MERGING WITH MOTION VECTOR DIFFERENCE Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC H04N19/56 H04N19/577

Abstract RU 2768377 C1

FIELD: data processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to intra or intra/intra prediction for video coding using merge with motion vector difference (MMVD). In particular, he discloses various methods of reducing complexity of MMVD and/or increasing efficiency. Disclosed is a prediction method and apparatus for video coding. According to this method, a set of merge candidates containing the MMVD candidate is generated. When the current block has a block size belonging to at least one default block size, whether the target candidate in the set of merge candidates is bidirectional prediction is determined after the set of merge candidates is generated. If the target candidate is bidirectional prediction: the target candidate is replaced by the single-prediction candidate; single-prediction candidate is included in the set of merge candidates to generate a modified set of merge candidates and the current movement information associated with the current block is encoded using a modified set of merge candidates on the video encoder side, or current motion information associated with the current block is decoded at the video decoder side using a modified set of merge candidates.

EFFECT: providing the best coding efficiency in the hybrid coding architecture in HEVC.
