FIELD: encoding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video encoding tools. A syntactic image-level element indicating whether prediction refining using an optical flow (PROF) for affine prediction is prohibited for the current image is received. It is determined whether PROF for affine prediction should be applied to the affine encoded block in the current image based on the image-level syntactic element indicating whether PROF for affine prediction is prohibited for the current image. In response to the image-level syntactic element indicating that PROF for affine prediction is prohibited for the current image, PROF for affine prediction is not applied to the affine encoded block in the current image. In response to determining that PROF for affine prediction is defined as applicable to the affine encoded block, the spatial gradients gx(i,j) and gy(i,j) at the reading position (i,j) are generated in the affine encoded block for the reading I(i,j) of the prediction, refinement ΔI(i,j) of the prediction is generated based on the spatial gradients gx(i,j) and gy(i,j), and the refinement ΔI(i,j) of the prediction is added to the reading I(i,j) of the prediction.
EFFECT: reduced influence of improving the quality of block-based affine motion compensation on the effectiveness of coding.
