FIELD: shipbuilding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to shipbuilding and can be used in designing, manufacturing and operation of vessels intended for movement in ice conditions. Disclosed is a method of moving a ship in ice, which includes creating a thrust using a vessel propulsor and the action of its hull on the ice mass with additional creation of rarefaction in the water, note here that rarefaction is created by formation of water jet ahead of vessel under ice surface directed along vessel motion by vessel propulsor or its active control means, as well as by water jet washing lower layers of ice along vessel heading.
EFFECT: increased icebreaking ability of vessel, especially in conditions of hummocky ice.
