SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of distributing a signal over multiple channels. Ambient signal channels are obtained so that components of the ambient signal are distributed over the ambient signal channels depending on the positions or directions of sound sources in the input audio signal. Number of received channels of the ambient signal containing different audio content is greater than the number of channels of the input audio signal. Direct signal is obtained, which contains direct sound components, based on the input audio signal. Ambient signal is selected based on input audio signal. Distributing the ambient signal over a plurality of channels of the ambient signal depending on the positions or directions of the sound sources in the input audio signal, wherein the number of channels of the ambient signal is greater than the number of channels of the input audio signal. Ambient signal channels and direct signal channels are associated with the same set of directions, or wherein the ambient signal channels are associated with a subset of the set of directions associated with the forward signal channels.
EFFECT: improvement of efficiency of obtaining surrounding signals.
